hmmm … I have always found this page to be the hardest to write (i dont like to write about myself
)… but i know its quiet important … so here is my second try
… my first try as many might know is at my currently old wordpress account but it didnt contain anything about myself .. other than my age and the fact that i love to cook … so i will try to say more this time …
Alrite …. Im 26 years old (since 19th April), originally from palestine .. but was born and lived my whole life in UAE (most people know Dubai) .. I have always had a passion for cooking… although im actually a computer graduate (i have bachoulers in Computer Information Systems (mostly known as IT)) ..but since i was a kid i liked to make new stuff and invent new recipes …. i remember my first cake i was i think 11 or 12 … and i happened to choose the most difficult cake to make … an Angel Food Cake … so i seperated 12 eggs (you can imagin how hard for me to do that … i was 11) … i was and still am a very stubborn person (not so proud of that .. but its a fact
)… so when my mama wanted to help .. i ofcourse said no .. wanting to make it all alone … so anyway .. after separating and making the whole cake … i was wondering why the recipe was saying that its a 10 inch cake … while the batter could barely fit a 5 inch pan … so i baked it in a 10 inch pan and the cake turned as flat as a pitta bread … but it still tasted fine
… atleast i tried back then to convince myself that it did … the only good thing is that it wasnt that discouraging for me … so i baked and baked after that … until i had my own list of recipes .. some are passed on from my grandma .. my mom .. and some are even from my cusins … but most have my own touch to it … so i hope this was better than the previous “About Page” … and i hope you enjoy the blog and Ofcourse … ENJOY COOKING
After Alot of thoughts … i decided to post my photo … so for everyone who is wondering how i look
… here is the answer

Laila,
Do you have a recipe request? As you can see, my training (of the home schooled sort) is steeped in French and Italian cuisine, although I often venture out into Asian, Southeast Asian, Indian, Greek, Middle Eastern, and the like—we are so diverse, but from the same earth. In fact, I need to post a bili bili recipe (originally from Africa) soon.
It would be amusing to start a little food “chain mail.”
Gordon
Thats quiet interesting Gordon .. well at the moment i cant think of any recipe request .. or oh yea .. i always wanned to know a souvlaki recipe (its greek )… i tried one before but wasnt upto my satisfaction .. it would be nice to try another one … well if you have any request make sure to drop a comment in the recipe request page … im glad you asked … and stay in touch

Hi Laila, really like your blog.Your pictures are remarkably clear and the steps are easy to follow.
Thanx Nael … im glad you like it …. let me know when you try anything out .. and do stay in touch
Salaam alaykum. Someone gave me a link to your blog this past Monday (28 Dec. 2009.) Since than I’ve visited this blog many, many times. I love looking at the pictures. It’s a visual feast. I cannot cook any of these things. It’s not my fault. As you know in our culture, man aren’t taught to cook as the grow up. I’ll learn some day, inshaAllah.
The fact that you’re a real person behind the recipe makes it so much better than looking at recipes from other websites. You should invite me over when I come to UAE. Someday.
Feel free to visit my blog here http://bluebygreen.wordpress.com/
Wa Alaikum assalam Imran … Im glad you found my blog and happy that you became a regular visitor … about the cooking part … well i understand your point … men never have to cook and when they do they make a big mess in the kitchen
.. i say that out of experience
.. but you know what .. my dad never cooks but there are a few things that are his specialty and no matter how hard my mom and I try to make it .. it just tastes better when he does it …
hope you get the courage some day to try some recipes out … do stay in touch
Salaam alaykum again. I came home and showed my mom your site. She’s throughly intrigued and will definitely cook some of your recipes. I did a write-up of why I like your blog and I posted it here http://tinyurl.com/ygs65qo and I also linked you blog in blog.
On a weekend, I’ll try to recreate one of your recipes. Kenafeh Nabulsiyeh looks wonderfully delicious and scrumptious. I’ll try this one first. I’ll post pictures, inshaAllah.
Wa alaikum assalam Imran …. im completely flattered by what you wrote .. thanx a lot .. you made my day
… i really love it … and im glad you passed my link along … and hope you and your family make use of what ever recipes i post
… Do let me know how anything you try turns out … will be waiting for your feedback
… and of course … stay in touch
Hi Laila,
It’s been a long time since I last wrote to you. I really love your photo and you look just like the beautiful angel that I know you as.
I just made your recipe for Sariha Ra’a (I may have spelled it wrong) and everyone just loved it. Guess what? A new market just opened in our area and they carry ground sumac!! Of course, it made me think of you and that caused me to visit your site again.
I’m going to try your coffee cake next. And even though I am of Italian descent, your dough is better than any I have EVER tried. So, thank you for all your wonderful recipes, your excellent blog, and for your gorgeous photo! Not to mention for all your wonderful teaching lessons to this old dog!
Fondly,
Claire
Hay Claire .. its really good to hear from you after so long … im glad to hear that it became easy for you to find the ingredients you need for my kind of recipes … and thanx for all your feedback … do let me know how the coffee cake turns out … and do stay in touch
Dear laila,
Thank you so much for your blog, I really enjoy it! I’m living i Abu Dhabi since only one month and I was looking for recipes in order to use all the marvellous products i can find in the markets here.
Could you juste explain what does mean “tb” and “ts” in your recipes? I think that “ts” is for table spoon but I can’t guess what is “tb”… In france, all recipes are given in grammes, so i’m a little bit lost…
Thank you!!
Hi Mathilde … im sorry for the confusion .. well “tb” is Table spoon and “ts” is Tea Spoon … you can find the measuring spoons and cups in different markets around here .. try looking in Carrefour i think you will find them there … and if you still get confused in any recipe do let me know and i will try to explain more … will be waiting for your feedback on any recipe you try … do stay in touch
